As we begin 2017, I wanted to revisit areas in need of attention when we go back to school,

1.  The 2017 Strategic Planning....Marian and Safra, what is your final decision-making?

2. MLK Day is fast approaching. Isaiah, Miranda, MiAngela, Mrs. Omelia, Mrs. Small, and Father Blizzard...Please check the MLK Day information at the Casady Places to Serve blog http://casadyplacestoserve.blogspot.com/.  Please let me know if what I have has not changed in my absence from OKC. Do we need a sign-up genius this year?

MLK Day needs
a. A flyer
b. A letter to market the day and get volunteers from all
A letter to market the day and get volunteers from all divisions
c.  Youth to introduce and the guest speaker on January 9th at UD and MD chapels
d. Sign-up genius link?
...did I forget something?

3. Finally, from the blogs below, and personal photos taken, the Rainbolt lunch needs a PP, Prezi or ? of memories of 2016???   Dr. Fyer suggested contacting the marketing department because they have great pics.  Grace, Katherine, and Ellie...any ideas here.

A reflective moment:

2016 was a very good year.  We transitioned from the very capable hands of Aubrey and Dylan to the welcoming, smiling hearts of Miranda and Isaiah.

Peace Week 2016 was a collaborative great beginning.  The Casady Cans Do Food Drive 2016 broke all donation records.  The ICS Hope for the Holiday Drive was a great success, and 30 people were able to donate blood in December 2016.

Looking forward to a wonderful 2017

Infant Crisis Services Hope for the Holidays Reflection

Sophomore Katherine S. facilitated the Casady's drive to support ICS.  Katherine is a member of the ICS Teen Board and has volunteered there in the summers since she was 13.

In 2015, she led the drive in the Primary and Lower Divisions and this year, she added the Upper Division. She was assisted by the fourth-grade class, the Casady YAC, the entire Lower, Primary, and Upper Divisions.  The Middle Division did not participate because they have an ongoing project during the holidays  The MD collects donations to educate a child at a sister school in Uganda, Bishop McAllister College.

The 4th grader faculty team started the ICS project a few years ago. The Primary Division adopted the project and in 2015, Katherine connected the project to the Upper Division YAC as part of her Independent Study Course,"Classroom with a Cause".  In 2016, Katherine brought this project for the holidays to the entire Upper Division.

Baby items donated were bottles, clothing, coats, hats, mittens, diapers, toys, and monetary donations for infant formula.  The high school had 5 days to bring donations and the drive competition ended on December 9, 2016.  The winning grade of an out of uniform and an extra out to lunch was the sophomore class.

Upper Division students and faculty who continued to bring donations placed them under the Harper Wing Giving Tree and YAC members took them to the Giving Trees at the Lower and Primary Divisions where the drive continued until December 14, 2016.  The fourth graders delivered donations on December 15 in Casady vans and the Primary Division students transported their "baby store under the tree" to a very special ICS Santa Vehicle on December 16, after grandparents day.

"I selected ICS because we, as the Casady Community, are so blessed in all that we have, in not only materials, but also connections with peers, teachers, and families to guide and assist us; however, others are not as fortunate, and often the little ones are left behind so I want to help the one in four babies who go hungry every night.  Thank you so much to all that participated and helped with the Hope for the Holidays Donation Drive. It was a huge success, and the generosity displayed was simply incredible. One girl, a Primary Division student, used all of the money she made this summer at a lemonade stand to buy a box of diapers bigger than she was", Katherine said.

The LD and UD delivered 300 pounds  in donations to ICS.  Mrs. France and the Casady Staff helped the 4th graders pack donations. Mrs. France, Upper Division Director drove a group of 4th graders to the Infant Crisis Services warehouse to deliver the LD and MD donations.

The Upper and Lower Division collected:
Cash $ 260.26 + Check $ 25.00-Total $ 285.26 for baby formula

The PD filled the "Santa's Special ICS Van" with ICS wish list items from the "Baby store under the tree" on Friday, January 16, 2016.

Final results will be provided by ICS officials after the Xmas Break.

Super Cao Nguyen donated some sweets for the ICS Drive organizers to say thank you to the Casady teachers who helped the drive reminding students to bring donations and/or brought donations themselves.

A decision to donate blood can save a life, or even several (3) if the blood is separated into its components — red cells, platelets and plasma.

There is a constant need for regular blood supply because blood can be stored for only a limited time before use.
You receive a mini physical to check your: Pulse, Blood Pressure, Body Temperature, and Hemoglobin

Luke Albert: YMCA Youth in Government The CEO of this program will speak at chapel on Thursday.  Luke provided marketing materials.
Karoline Leonard: Centennial High School
"I wanted to talk to you about starting a new drive at our school! My youth group was recently asked to provide food for a banquet at Centennial High School here in Oklahoma City. The school's administration told us that the student body didn't have enough money to provide food for themselves. This made me feel terribly. If they don't have enough to provide for food, then how can they have enough money for winter clothes? Since most of the students must stand outside and wait for the bus every morning, they must get cold while waiting. I thought that maybe we could start a drive for winter coats or jackets, gloves or mittens, scarves, and even old boots. We as a student body is so blessed and we have so much that we can give. I want to help this school with any of their own needs. I will come and see you later on and we can have a meeting about it with YAC for support! Please feel free to email me back with any comments, questions, or concerns. I hope that this drive will work out so that we can help Centennial High School!"
Miranda suggested to talk to coach T. to have this as a YAC drive for the month of January.  Meanwhile, Mrs. Clay suggested to starting bringing winter clothing for high school age teens to the giving tree at Harper.  Karoline will give more details at the next meeting, which might have to be after the break because Miranda was not sure if she was going to call on a meeting next week when Mrs. Clay will be away.
5. MLK Day   Planning Team received the following ideas and possible adult supervisors  Miranda suggested joining the MD and volunteering the Saturday before MLK Day!   UPDATE:  The Food Bank stated that they have opening for 40 volunteers on MLK Day. Isaiah decided that YAC will volunteer in the afternoon from 1:30-4:00.  Mrs. Clay suggested to have a small competition related to MLK's Dream and the fact that some YAC members will be attending the National Service Learning Conference in California....Dress like a Disney character competition???? =)

Casady's Upper Division Youth Active in the Community (YAC) service learning students have been hard at work to organize drives and donations to help others in our Greater Oklahoma City Community.

Earlier this fall, students worked together for the campus wide food drive in conjunction with the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma, and this month two large focus projects will benefit Infant Crisis Services (ICS) and the Oklahoma Blood Institute.

Infant Crisis Services Donation Drive - through Dec. 14
Sophomore Katherine Schoeffler, who heads up Casady's drive to support ICS, is a member of the Teen Board and has volunteered there in the summers since she was 13. In 2015, she led the drive in the Primary and Lower Divisions and this year has added the Upper Division. She is assisted by the fourth grade class, the entire Lower Division and the Primary division.  The 4th graders started the project a few years ago.  Katherine connected all the divisions and the experience has been hearth warming.  Baby items needed are bottles, clothing, coats, hats, mittens, diapers, formula, and monetary donations can be delivered to each division's main office.  The high school ended the drive competition today.  The winning grade of an out of uniform and an extra out to lunch is the sophomore class.  Students who wish to continue to bring donations may do so to the Harper Wing Giving Tree or take them directly to the Giving Trees at the Lower or Primary Divisions until December 14, 2016.  The fourth graders will deliver donations on December 15 in Casady vans and the Primary Division students will transport their "baby store under the tree" to a very special ICS Santa Vehicle on December 16, after grandparents day.

"I have selected ICS because we, as the Casady Community, are so blessed in all that we have, in not only materials, but also connections among peers, teachers, and families to guide and assist us; however, others are not as fortunate, and often the little ones are left behind so I want to help the one in four babies who go hungry every night," Katherine said.

Katheirne stated:
Thank you so much to all that participated and helped with the Hope for the Holidays Donation Drive. It was a huge success, and the generosity displayed was simply incredible. One girl, a Primary Division student, used all of the money she made this summer at a lemonade stand to buy a box of diapers bigger than she was. As promised, the results have been tallied and the Sophomores came in first place, winning an out-to-lunch and an out-of-uniform. The Juniors came in second, followed by a tie of Faculty, Seniors, and Freshman  for third. Thank you so much to all that helped bring a wonderful holiday season to children in need!

We have important information for you from Agent HQ...

Agents, your twelfth and final mission...
is to Build a Global Fire...
with your fellow Agents in a Wopida Ceremony!
Youth, Interfaith Communities, Indigenous Peoples, and all Intergenerational Allies have come to stand firmly together in unprecedented unity at Standing Rock. Agents of Compassion and Water Protectors from every continent on Mother Earth have unified to say NO to the Dakota Access Pipeline, but even more so to say a resounding YES to a future that is sane, safe, and healthy, a future that has clean water to drink for all people of the Human Family.

As this takes place, we can each begin to feel what the Dakota people call “Wopida” in our hearts and prayers. And so it is time for us to come together on the last day of the Giving Games, to Build a Global Fire of the human spirit, and unite in a Global Wopida Ceremony together!

What is the Global Wopida?
Wopida is a Dakota word with profound, infinite, eternal meaning and transformative spiritual energy. The purpose of the December 10th Global Wopida Ceremony is to be thankful and grateful for whatever Life bestows on us, knowing that every test and challenge comes into our lives for our spiritual growth and upliftment.
The Global Wopida will be the launch event for a 6 month campaign called “Build a Global Fire,” intended to keep the fires of humanity burning bright long into the New Year.
When: Today, Decemeber 10th,
10AM - 3PM Central Time

RSVP for the Global Wopida Here

Build a Global Fire!

The point of Build a Global Fire is to share the transforming Spirit of Standing Rock world-wide by prayerfully igniting a six month “Global Fire” of Thanksgiving and Compassion through personal expressions on social media.

Steps of Action:
  1. Light an honoring flame (such as a candle), then…
  2. Take a video (or photo) stating what you are grateful for, and sharing what your intentions are for the world.
  3. Share your fire (video/photo) with #GlobalFire on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and/or the Compassion Report Map!
  4. Invite Others to Build a Global Fire!
Good luck, Agents!

This is your last mission! If you haven't already begun to do so, report and share your experiences on the Compassion Report Map! We have already started to see meaningful and inspiring examples of what compassion looks like when brought to life by you and your team of Agents around the world!

The last 11 days have been a remarkable journey, made up of one act of compassion and generosity to the next from players and teams around the world, as well as from one Champion of Compassion, accepting the light of the Compassion Torch, to the next.

For Day 12, the final day of the Giving Games, we are profoundly humbled to pass the Compassion Torch from Gary Zukav, Linda Francis, and Seat of the Soul Institute to the honorable Oceti Sakowin, Standing Rock Sioux Tribe.
