Happy 2018

As we begin the New Year 2018, I echo the thoughts of Wendy Silvers, founder of the Million Mamas Movement, in my hopes and wishes for our school, our beautiful Oklahoma City, and our world.

"May the true essence and celebration of Chanukah Solstice Christmas and Kwanzaa ~ miracles, light everlasting, love, peace, mercy, forgiveness, generosity, creativity, eternal life, universal principles, draw us close.

May the manmade borders of separatism ~ bigotry, hatred, racism, sexism, ageism, patriotism, elitism, religiosity, power over and war ~ dissolve in our hearts and minds.

May we seed a global heart that nurtures and nourishes the thriving and flourishing of each of us, who represent the One of us, in the most life-affirming and deepest ways.

May all women, mothers, girls, and boys everywhere have freedoms and be cherished.

May our boys, men, and world leaders be guided to know that violence is not the solution but a cause of bitterness and choose differently.

May we, the people, be so inspired, informed and educated about who we really are that we would never harm another or be less than our magnificent selves.

May we, the people, recognize, re-know, that we elected the officials, and that we can disrupt the status quo of policies and legislation that are not healthy for us through our conscious awareness, votes and buying choices.

May all know that there is no power greater or stronger than the power of LOVE. LOVE is the SOULution. LOVE is the Healer, the Revealer, the Restorer, the Unifier, the Liberator. Let LOVE rule. Let LOVE lead the way. LOVE is the one note that everything in this multi-dimensional Universe always vibrates to.

Choose LOVE! See LOVE! Speak LOVE! Be LOVE!"

YAC Project Leader speaks at Chapel with 4th Grade Project leaders
ICS Hope for the Holidays Project Leaders Speak at UD and LD Chapels

My name is Katherine Schoeffler, and I’m a junior at Casady this year. I’m here to talk to you all about the Infant Crisis Services Hope for the Holidays Donation Drive like last year, and I’d like to start us off with a quote that I use with the lower division.

Lorax Movie.jpg
“Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, Nothing is going to get better. It's not.”

This quote is from Dr. Seuss in the book, The Lorax. Now, I absolutely love this quote because it explains the way that change starts with you.

Infant Crisis Services gives food, formula, clothes, diapers, and many other necessities to children in need. During their visit, each child is provided with a week’s worth of these items. This gives them such an amazing holiday, free from worries that young children should never have to face.

Last year, combined with Lower and Primary division, it took more than three cars to send all of the donations to Infant Crisis Services, which is why I’m so excited to share this project with you all. Three cars. That’s amazing.

Another example! There was one incredible student in the Primary Division that used all of her piggy bank money from a lemonade stand last summer to buy three boxes of diapers for babies who needed them. And another student in the high school! She donated nearly all of her stuffed animals that she no longer needed to the cause. These people are just like you. They have truly pure and giving and generous hearts, just like you.

The holidays are an exciting time for everyone. I would love to get everyone to use their holiday spirit to donate items and give babies and toddlers the amazing, worry-free holidays they deserve. This drive is so important to me because 1 in 4 babies goes hungry each night, but we can help them by donating items and volunteering.
Here’s a wishlist provided by ICS. This gives the children such an amazing holiday, free from worries that young children should never have to face, and everyone deserves a wonderful holiday season.

If you can, please bring to the Giving Tree at the Student Center:

Blankets,
Gently used childrens clothing
Monetary donations
The drive will take place December 11-15, which is next week, in the mornings and I just want you to know that I’m so excited to introduce you all to this drive, so just thank you all so much in advance for helping a child in need to have a happy holiday.

This year's drive for infant items will kick off Dec. 1 and continue through Dec. 12 in Lower Division and Dec. 13 in Primary Division. The Upper Division joins the drive on Dec. 11-Dec. 15.

Please help us spread holiday cheer to children in need.

Donations are welcome from anyone in the Casady Community and can be dropped off in the mornings during carpool to be placed under the Christmas trees by the front offices at the Lower Division and Primary Division and at the Gaylord Student Center in the Upper Division:
  • Diapers
  • New or gently used toys
  • Baby bottles, sippy cups
  • Gently used children’s clothing (sizes preemie-4T)
  • Blankets
  • Winter coats
  • Monetary donation

Katherine S, who heads up Casady's drive to support ICS, has been a member of the Teen Board and has volunteered at ICS in the summers since she was 13. In 2015, she led the drive in the Primary and Lower Divisions, and last year the Upper Division joined the drive. Katherine is assisted by the fourth grade class, the entire Lower Division and the Primary Division. The fourth graders started the project a few years ago.

The Upper Division YAC will be collecting donations the week of December 11th-15th  to help the 4th graders make a difference in the lives of infants and toddlers in need in Oklahoma.

Inline image 1Babies in Oklahoma live in poverty, putting them at a moderate to high risk for developmental delay.  Early childhood nutrition is an integral part of our community’s health and future. When our babies and toddlers are able to get the food they need to grow big and strong, we all win.

Infant Crisis Services provides life-sustaining formula, food and diapers to babies and toddlers in times of crisis…Because no baby should go hungry.

Please contact, YAC Vice-President, Katherine at katherineschoeffler@casady.org or any of the fourth graders for more details.

Blood Drive to Benefit Oklahoma Blood Institute

Dear Families,
On Wednesday, Dec. 13, the Casady Upper Division YAC (Youth Active in the Community) is hosting our annual Blood Drive! While we encourage each other who are 16 and older to donate, this drive is not limited to just students. You are invited to DONATE, too.
We learned several things from the Oklahoma Blood Institute:
  • The Oklahoma Blood Institute is the sole provider of blood in Oklahoma.
  • They need 1200 units of blood each day to meet the demand.
  • Each unit donated benefits 3 people - from infants to geriatrics.
  • There is no artificial substitute for blood; it must come from us.
We know that we have several Casady families whose lives have been changed for the better because of the gift of blood. We hope that you will be able to join us on Wednesday, Dec. 13 in the Casady Wing, from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
The Sign-up Sheet to reserve your spot and Blood Institute Permissions Slips are available at the UD Administration Office.
  • Bring completed permission slip and a picture ID to the Wing.
  • Eat a good breakfast and hydrate before you donate!
  • The gift of life is the perfect gift to give!
Gratefully,
Malavika Rajaram, sophomore
YAC Secretary

Please Note: Parents and those over 16 may sign up to donate blood, but walk-ins are welcome. Requirements include those 16 or 17 must weigh at least 125 lbs, and those over 18 must weigh at least 110 lbs. Permission slips for all students and ID's for all donors are required. Please join the Casady Community for a successful blood drive to support the Oklahoma Blood Institute.
