August YAC Activity

Isaiah and  Miranda met the first week in June and planned an August 6th meeting of the Planning Team at the Bennett Athletic Center from 2:00-3:00 PM.   

Isaiah and Miranda made a GroupMe of the current members (they will add freshmen when they arrive on club seminar day) and received 11 RSVP, but due to last minute changes in personal plans only Miranda, Isaiah, Safra,Mariam, and Natalie H. attended.

We were thinking Tuesday's at 7:30 and then provide donuts or bagels or something like that. We have not connected with the environmental club, but we will soon. Isaiah and I plan to do that. 

August Volunteer Requests

Advancement Office requests YAC Partnership

The Advancement Office would like to partner with YAC on an event that would serve as stewardship to Casady School donors.

We would like to host an event in late February or early March that would involve YAC members taking a few hours to write personalized thank you cards to donors who have committed to supporting Casady at the Leadership Circle level. This would be around 200-250 cards and ideally a dozen volunteers. In return, they would receive service learning hours and we would provide food and refreshments while they are there.

Casady Volunteers need YOUR HELP! 

What? Assistance with the cleaning and organizing both of the concession stands.   With the help of a few adults and the janitorial crew, we are planning a big clean up, organize and refigure furnishing of both Jimmy’s and the Bennett Athletic concession stands.  Volunteer service hours will be provided!

Smart Start needs volunteers and seeks Teen Board Applications

There will be a volunteer opportunity August 2nd at 10:15 at the Smart Start Facility. This opportunity will take a little longer than 2 hours as we will need to separate some materials in kits and will need a decent sized group for this task. Please, inform your friends about this chance for service hours.

Oklahoma City Myriad Gardens Site of the first OKC Friendship Walk
Celebrating the United Nations International Day of Peace which occurs on a yearly basis on 9/21

The first OKC Friendship Walk will be on Saturday, September 24th, 2pm, at the Myriad Gardens in Oklahoma City. The walk will be a part of the Turkish Festival, and it will demonstrate the rich diversity of Oklahoma's communities as well as our commitment to building a culture of peace and friendship. It will commemorate the International Day of Peace (9/21) as proclaimed by the General Assembly of the United Nations.

Everyone is invited to participate -- there is no charge for admission to the festival, and the only requirement for walkers is to maintain a positive attitude and a peaceful demeanor. Flags, signs, banners are welcome, as well as expressions of support for the sustainable development of our planet in a global culture of peace. We might also offer a special word of encouragement to the people of Turkey who are suffering from the erosion of human and civil rights in their country. Peace, freedom, and human rights go hand in hand. 

 The Myriad Gardens will promote the events through their social media kits. 

Walk speakers: Sinead Maguina... will introduce the speakers and give instructions to the walkers.   The Executive Director of Myriad Garden Foundation Maureen Heffernan (405) 445-7081 mheffernan@myriadgardens.org and  Kuaybe Basturk ... A peace walk or peace march, sometimes referred to as a peace pilgrimage, is a form of nonviolent action where a person or groups of people march a set distance to raise awareness of particular issues important to the walkers.

Peace/Friendship Walk/Parade/Pilgrimage to take place on 9/24/2016 awaiting confirmation of location and time of the day for the Walk/Parade is issued a special invitation to Youth LEADERS and their schools to participate in the walk bringing banners, flags, and signs.

Casady Cheerleaders will be greeting Johnson Elementary students to their school year on Monday, August 1st.  Go Casady Cheer!  Thank you to Mrs. O'Melia for overseeing this opportunity to connect our cheerleaders talents to mentoring and cheering children to a great school year.


Zac C. will be attending a Best Buddies Conference in Florida.  Zac will bring the Best Buddies Club to Casady under the sponsorship of the Casady Service-Learning Program.

Zac Conner is working at bringing a new club under the sponsorship of the Service-Learning Program and YAC. The Club is Best Buddies. Details coming soon from Zac.
