From the Desk of Mrs. Clay: Freshman hosts Kent School Teens Tornado Relief Group




July 21- July 27 Tornado Relief Teen Team (Casady School, Youth LEAD OKC, Kent School in Connecticut, and New York Teens from YMCA):  Megan Tepper-Rasmussen Sokolnicki'95, 
Director of Community Service at Kent School in CT http://www.kent-school.edu/, a co-ed boarding high school in Connecticut was in OKC July 21-28, 2013 with 6 teens volunteering with the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma and Habitat for Humanity tornado relief Moore.





Alex W'17 spent Sunday, July 21st. as the Casady host for the Kent School Group at the monthly Youth LEAD OKC Meeting at the Casady Wing. 


Youth Lead OKC teens started the meeting helping make pinwheels for peace for the OCU International Day of Peace 9/21.  The goal is to make at least 1,000 pinwheels in collaboration with all divisions at Casady, Mercy School, Youth LEAD OKC, Boys and Girls Club, Independent and Assisted Living Facilities and other partner interested organizations.




Other Youth LEAD OKC July meeting guests included YGlobal Teens from New York City and Mrs. Marolyn Stout from the Statesman Club who spoke about Oklahoma, the musical and the bandanas in the musical.  





The stories part of the July Youth LEAD OKC meeting ended with a presentation from A.R. and a Mercy School Institute family Q/A on Ramadan followed by a first person survivor of Moore Tornado account from Casady Spanish teacher, Miss Demaris Castro and her family. 





 
 
After the stories, adult Youth Lead OKC mentors facilitated YL activities and connections to service-learning to share principles and guidelines of YLOKC.
 


The grand finale of the Youth LEAD OKC July meeting was a send off song facilitated by YGlobal Teens Oklahoma.  Alex and the Kent School group joined a Youth LEAD OKC dinner at Grand House hosted by YMCA of Greater Oklahoma City.








 Monday, July 22 was an action day with YLOKC-Y Global Teens volunteering to build a pumpkin patch for a Moore Elementary School.  Kent School and Alex volunteered at the Moore Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma distribution center.



 Alex, Jack T. and Sophie T. joined the Y and Kent teens on a visit to the Oklahoma National Memorial and Museum on Tuesday, July 23.



 
 
 

 
Kent School Rebuilding Oklahoma Team volunteered with Habitat from July 24-27.  Alex was unable to join them because of the 16+ year old age requirement from Habitat
