Here’s your chance to make a real impact by inspiring compassionate actions wherever you live. Join with the Charter for Compassion International to offer the beautiful film, “Kindness is Contagious” in your community. Let’s take compassion viral!

How to host a theatrical screening event in your community:
“Kindness Is Contagious” is a great way to open up a dialogue about the power of Kindness in your city. You can use independent film to galvanize your community and highlight groups and organizations doing great things in your area. In order to make this possible the creators of this lovely film teamed up with a distribution company called GATHR to make it easy for you to bring "Kindness Is Contagious" to your local theater at absolutely no cost to you.

GATHR uses a “Theatrical‐On‐Demand” model to allow audiences all over the country to bring amazing film content otherwise unavailable to your town. You simply request a screening at some of your favorite local theaters and they coordinate the logistics for you. You won’t have to pay any screening room rental or exhibition fee – But here's the thing, we need to reach our ticket goals in order to make the event happen or "tip it" so we will need you to spread the word to your community any way you can. Once enough people reserve tickets, the screening event is on!

Here are 3 easy steps to follow:
1- Click the link below to request a screening of the film at your local theater.

2- Enter the PROMOTIONAL CODE:  CCI when requesting to ensure that Gathr identifies your event as part of the Charter for Compassion campaign.

3- Be Flexible! The more options you give Gathr, the quicker they can get your screening set up.
4- Once you submit your request be sure to confirm the request via the Gathr email. Once confirmed, Gathr will send you a link to the screening event. Send this link to colleagues, friends, family and anyone in the community and encourage them to do the same!

-When people start wanting to come to meetings and events
    -Producing money (donations). Smiles
    -Completing projects
-When we have several activities planned that the school community shows interest in
    - When service is an intrinsic positive relationship value we hold dear, not just an avenue  to promote personal agendas (popularity, power, social agency, college resume building),requirement completion -which are unexpected results of being the agents of the change we want to see. When we prioritize time, money and commitment to Education of the Heart, because education of the mind and body without education of the heart is no education at all. When volunteerism is valued but service learning is treasured and the community will suffer if the were to disappear.  When we are proud of Peace Week and being Agents of Compassion

We invite you to join us as members of Casady’s St. Baldrick’s team.  For the past four years we’ve supported the St. Baldrick’s Foundation in its efforts to raise funds for pediatric cancer research.
In solidarity with children who lose their hair to cancer treatment we have our heads shaved at the annual head-shaving event.  In exchange for our hair and time we ask people to sponsor us with donations to the St. Baldrick’s Foundation.
If you choose to join us, you’ll have your head shaved with us at VZDs on April 13.   Fund raising is easy—we simply get the word out and those who wish to sponsor us do so online.
This event is truly a lot of fun and your hair will grow back.  To join the Casady team go to http://www.stbaldricks.org/teams/mypage/91494/2014 and click Join Us.  Or click Donate if you would like to support us with a donation.
You can also support us with you presence at the head-shaving.  The head-shaving event will be held on April 13 at VZD’s, 4200 N Western Ave.  The start time is 12:30 PM.
You can find out more about the St. Baldrick’s Foundation and the head-shaving events on their Web sitehttp://www.stbaldricks.org/   You can also contact Jeff bushj@casady.org or one of the other team members to find out more about being shavee.

Would it be ok if I made fliers about my project and the items that we need donated and hung the fliers in all the buildings? Also could I put "drop-boxes" in every building for the supplies that people donate? The YWCA has many items that these struggling women and children need so we can use all of the help that we can get!"  UPDATE: Boxes and flyers in buildings.  Aubrey is now requesting class competitions???

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    e-mail from Mrs. Clay
Dear Executive Board: ( Please forward this to Katherine; Amir and Camille; turner and  Isabelle)

The attached is the final count of the Executive Board based on expressed interest of being a facilitator or a co-facilitator of projects.  Please read the YSA News and consider applying for the National Youth Boards mentioned.  Also, the deadline to apply for funding for the MLK Day of Service project is next week.  We received, I think in 2007, $1,000 from the Points of Light Foundation for a service fair we created in collaboration with the YMCA.  It was cancelled due to weather, but our work with Boys and Girls Club started in a strong way that year due to funding we had to bring the fair to them on a monthly basis.  If anyone has a great idea and wants to apply, we need to get together Sunday, via phone, to work on the application.  Any takers???

Jessica and Katie have been planning agendas, but they need greater input from EXEC for future agendas.  How about an extra planning meeting for EXEC???  When is the best day and time???  Before school? ????

For the first October meeting, thanks to an impromptu meeting last Tuesday, EXEC members present gave the go ahead for the following meeting

    a. Bingo game prepared by Jessica.  Goal: To get to know each other a bit better....The reflective part of Youth LEADS: REFLECT, CONNECT, ACT

    b. Mr. Crofton will be conducting a connecting and awareness raising exercise as the beginning  link between YAC and YWCA.  Aubrey and her team are investigating needs with Madeline, the Volunteer Coordinator of YWCA

    c. Preliminary decisions were made regarding the October Project: Students Against Hunger, Casady Cans Do Food Drive.

    a. Katie and seniors will plan what will be going on in the Upper Division.  Katie is asking for some changes this year regarding location of collection boxes.  We had the lowest number of cans and money donated last year.  Hope this year seniors will provide greater motivation since the need is even greater this year.

    b. Jessica and juniors will be responsible for helping the MD (count cans, motivate with chapel speeches), repair can costume, create new ones, make signs.  They have a good system that has empowered them to beat their yearly totals every year.

    c. Aubrey and sophomores will help the LD.  Their process changes every year.  Last year, due to can costume enthusiasm and stickers, they beat their record from 2011.

    d. Johnny and freshmen will help the PD.  They start later, therefore, people with 1st hour off should sign-up to help.  They bring cans when the can costume and the stickers remind the parents.  A visible "can" presence with stickers is a great incentive in this division.

    d. Johnny  started to check on the freshman project with Jingle Jangle.  Maybe he will have details to report at next meeting.

Agenda: Fall Fest sign-up:  Quick meeting to allow members to attend other regularly scheduled meetings

    12:38  Introduction of YAC Leaders

    12:40 Dismissed

Mrs. Clay's e-mail before the meeting

Taylor and Emily are interested in helping co-facilitate projects, which will make them part of the YAC Exec.!  I have not heard from anyone else who signed up at the end of the year last year.  At the next meeting, could you consider a few minutes of intentionally introducing the Exec Board.  I would like the members as well as myself to hear why you decided to be part of the Exec and what project or organization you are passionate about and how you hope to connect your passion to YAC activities.  Please become acquainted with YLEAD OKC guidelines for chairs, meetings, and project management which I have attached to this e-mail.

    12 Days for Peace

Jessica stated that the 12 days of Global Unity (includes Sidney's Activity on 9/22) were discussed at the YAC invitational, but I never got information about what was planned with the exception of a possible Bake off among grades on 9/11 benefiting the Village Firefighters.  Some one needs to request permission to make a chapel announcement Monday to have a school wide bake off!  If the Bake OFF is a YAC experience only, grade chairs need to get the contact information of the people who attended the first meeting and communicate to them : 9/11 YAC activity and any other activity as YAC grade chairs you want to sponsor during the 11 Days of Global Unity. They cannot help any activity, if they do not know about the activity.   See attached challenge I issued to YLOKCasady about the 12 days of Unity. YLOKC has a meeting today at 5pm at the Wing.  I will see what results from there.  Jessica sent the idea of a competition of a sincere letter to a teacher on 9/12

On 9/13, if we get pine tree seedlings donated by the Forestry department, resulting from an investigation made by the Green Team at Boys and Girls Club , I would like YAC chairs to consider delivering the seedlings to UD  teachers.  We requested from 40 seedlings, one for every UD faculty member.  Teachers can take the seedlings to plant them at a location of their choice or designate a teacher or coach in another division to be the recipient of the tree. We encourage planting the tree on 9/21 IDP to be one more tree of the 100 million trees planted on IDP by 2017 Eno Schools Programme Initiative.  The trees that YAC is unable to give away, Service-Learning  will take to Boys and Girls Club, for planting one on 9/21 (should the pertinent permissions be granted), or given away to people attending the Boys and Girls Club Kids Carnival on 9/21. No response, Mrs. Clay delivered the seedlings to teachers.

I was going to volunteer at the Food Bank on 9/14 and 9/21, but they are full.  The volunteer coordinator suggested contacting Moore tornado Relief, the Salvation Army, or  the Jesus House.  I have to make a decision by the end of the day Monday.  Do you have any suggestions of organizations that work on Saturdays and will take 8 years old and older or 14 and older volunteers - not ever sure how many volunteer will show up, but guarantee ONE- the YAC sponsor?    Some Saturday activities in the Spring with ICS possible.

On 9/20, the service-learning program  needs volunteers throughout the day from making and  planting pinwheels to helping Maggie and Johnny with Primary and MD/LD activities.  Last year YAC sponsored  an ICEE for your peace thoughts on the Friday before peace day.  Service-Learning spent a lot of money and received very a few thoughts on peace.  Is YAC going to do something this year?  My suggestion is to have a grade pinwheel making competition among YAC members and clubs beginning Wednesday and ending Saturday( I could be available for a portion of time at the Wing.)  On Saturday, the winning group will decide what the peace activity will be and what the snack for the YAC meeting will be.  The s-l budget for this day  is  $60.  This is just a suggestion, NOT A DIRECTIVE!!!  You always surprise me with better activities!!! Seondre working with LD after school before he starts football, Johnny working with MD, Maggie working with Primary.  No one took leadership of this project in the UD.

On 9/21, I made an executive decision because I did not hear from any of you about special interest on volunteering at a particular organization.  Casady Service-Learning will be volunteering at Boys and Girls Club from 8-4 PMV.  I also would like to walk to end Alzheimer's.  I will need YAC chairs helping the club with set-up and to manpower the Casady table while I am at the carnival.   I asked Abby if we could take some of her family's carnival games. I will recheck with her to see if that is possible. Sdiney is the chair and has an activity and a group from YlOKC and maybe YAC helping

Emails  from Mrs. Clay 8/30/2013 after school

    a. Thank you for wanting to meet at the Wing tomorrow, Saturday, September 30, at 10:00 at the Wing.

    Katie, Jessica,  and Aubrey
You have attached the list of the people who wanted to be YAC Chairs by grade.  Everyone in your grade should be notified of the meeting tomorrow,.  If they cannot make it, that is ok. I just want to make sure that anyone who is interested is included.  Tell them that the minutes of the meeting will be at the Casady YAC Leads Blog.  If they want something in particular to be considered, to tell you and that you will bring it to the attention of the board.

When and Where? : Saturday,  August 30, Casady Wing, 10:00 AM until chairs end the meeting.  When are you planning to end the meeting, to make my family plans accordingly?   Snacks and drinks provided by service-learning program.  Please tell me what snacks and drinks you want and I will go to Sam's to purchase them.

Johnny:  If you cannot make the meeting that is ok.  Please tell Simon and the girls who are helping you with MD IDP about the meeting.  Hope to have at least one freshman at the meeting.  If not, the agenda and minutes will be at the Casady Leads YAC Blog http://casadyacleads.blogspot.com/
    Sidney, Gavin, and Yogaish
Find Attached the YLOKC roster.  Invite only YLOKCasady to this meeting.  If you cannot make, that is ok.  It is a very short notice, but I am excited about the leadership taken by the YAC Chairs to have a meeting to be prepared for what is one of the biggest sign-ups in the history of YAC!

See the ones able to make the meeting tomorrow at 10:00 AM at the Casady Wing!,

    b. Project Proposals

    1. My study hall freshmen proposed to make a peace pole in several languages.  Mr. Crofton helped write a draft of a solicitation letter to Ace Hardware for supplies.  If YAC decides to embrace it, we could start building it next week and have it ready for the week of 9/11-9/21.  The pole will have the worldwide prayer, May Peace Prevail on Earth in all the languages representing the diversity of our student body.

    2. As the After School program made pinwheels last week, the idea of making 12 giant pinwheels for a pinwheel competition came to mind.  Grades will be assigned 4 themes of the 12 days of unity and peace and interested members could make the 4 pinwheels representing their grade, decorate them and the winning group will get the satisfaction of working together to raise awareness of the day's challenge theme and being featured in the Peace websites worldwide with an article written by them as a reflection of their work together.  They will also be treated with a whirled peace ice cream social at Cherry Berry (We will have to contact the owners for a donation).  We could also ask ACE hardware for the supplies.

    3. Boys and Girls Club has a big best on 9/21 from 10-2.  They will provide details Tuesday.  They want to know if YAC is interested in having a booth(s) at their best celebrating kids on International Day of Peace!

Valentina responded:  I like option number 2! But we should look into other things that we can do for the boys and girls club! I used to volunteer there in 6th grade and I think it is such a worthy cause

    c. Project Proposal from the Middle Division
On February 1, Casady is hosting a Science Olympiad Invitational Tournament on campus from approximately 8 am to 5 pm.  We will have anywhere from 15-20 teams from other schools visiting our school.  It will include both middle and upper division students.  We will need many volunteers to make this tournament work.  Would it be possible for us to utilize some UD student volunteers?  Would they be able to earn some service learning hours by doing so?  I thought it might be a way for them to help us and be able to fulfill some of their hours.  I could be wrong, but I wanted to check.

    E-mail from Mrs. Clay, July 8, 2013

Good Morning! 2013-2014 begins the new decade for YAC and I am excited about what YAC will look like this year.

Please visit the new YAC Blog http://casadyacleads.blogspot.com/ and send me your ideas of goal, mission, vision, and purpose for YAC 2013-2014.

It is also time to get together to make YAC decisions for next school year and have a tentative YAC plan of action for the year.

In the past, the senior chairs met and decided YAC’s first semester activities following the calendar of National Service Days during a YAC August Invitational Retreat. This year, we will be having a YAC Executive Board (Teens from every grade level directly involved with making most of the crucial YAC decisions. Self appointed by interest in YAC and desire to be a YAC Project Chair). Included in this email is anyone who signed-up at the end of the school year 2013 or verbally expressed a desire to be a YAC Grade Chair and a freshman class member of Youth LEAD OKC.
