Ms. Cherylynn O'Melia, Middle School SEE (Seven and Eight Grade Exploration)  Service Coordinator and Mrs. Carmen Clay'74, UD Service-Learning Director, will represent Casady at the 26th National Service-Learning Learning Conference in Washington D.C., April 7-12.

One voice, trying to make positive change in the world, can be heard by many, but when hundreds, even thousands of voices come together they can be heard across the country and the world. Lasting, impactful change occurs when voices unite and become More Powerful Together.

More Powerful Together, the 26th Annual National Service-Learning Conference®, will gather more than 1,500 youth and adults from across the country and around the world for three days of learning, inspiration, and connection. This intergenerational event creates a unique atmosphere, where youth bring incredible energy and passion to discussions on education and social policy. Both youth and adults gain the tools, resources, ideas, and support to return home to improve their practice, their schools, and their communities. It is the opportunity to become More Powerful Together.

Thursday April 9, 9-3:30 : Diving Deep: Strategies to Transform Service-Learning Concepts and Best Practice
Hosted by Cathryn Berger Kaye, Audience: K-16 Teachers and Administrators

Experience new and effective approaches to illuminate service-learning ideas that meet the needs of 21st century learners. These strategies have proven highly effective within schools in the United States and across the globe. The aim: to provoke and promote deep understanding of critical issues and to expand how youth approach designing plans that make meaningful contributions. In what ways can we ensure our students have essential skills to be change-makers? What is the role of the adult? What are the amazing possibilities for the learners? And how do we do all of this and connect to the curriculum? Our work together will be highly engaging with resources provided. All who attend will walk out the door with effective ways to enliven service learning best practice.

Author and international consultant Cathryn Berger Kaye is known for modeling engaging methods that can be integrated in everyday teaching. Her transparency while presenting ensures understanding regarding the depth and dimensions of her approach. Cathryn is the author of The Complete Guide to Service Learning and two service-learning books coauthored with environmental advocate Philippe Cousteau. Cathryn will be traveling 188 days this academic year to provide professional development around the world in K-12 and higher education.
