The Annual Global Compassion Games, Survival of the Kindness last for 11 days. They begin on September 11th, a National Day of Service and Remembrance, and end on September 21st, United Nations International Day of Peace. The Games are part of the 11 Days of Global Unity and CASADY YAC PEACE WEEK
Why to Play? It is easy and rewarding to be kind. Nobody can calculate the ripple effects of doing good for another, the Earth, and even for oneself.
Who writes the game’s missions? The International Kindness Team, Andy Smallman, founder of Kind Living and the Puget Sound Community School with David Spangler, American Spiritual philosopher write the daily kindness missions. Fish illustrates them.
How to Play: It's free. Go to http://compassiongames.org/ and Sign up. You will receive, via e-mail, 11 kindness missions from Sept. 11 through Sept. 21st. That’s all there is to it. The missions will also appear at the Casady Compassion Games Blog.

MD PEACE WEEK ACTIVITIES

*Plan for this event to be outside between Calvert and Crabtree with ball activity games/booths between McClendon and Casady Lake. Additionally, plan for 75 K-5 grade children.
OBJECTIVE: To plan and execute a culminating community outreach event for YMCA Aftercare students.
EXPLANATION OF EVENT: Each seventh and eighth grade advisory will plan and execute a game or activity for the kick off party with the YMCA students on 9/18. Individual advisories will be responsible for implementing their respective game or activity. Additionally, each advisory is responsible for all equipment, supplies, and set up and clean up of their activities.

8/31: Plan to discuss possible activities in advisory. I suggest using your previous booth idea that was canceled due to inclement weather. The advisory plan sheets are due to Ms. O’Melia no later than Friday, 9/4.Step Two:
Ms. Larsen will approve plan sheets, and Ms. O’Melia will distribute approved plans to the various advisories promptly.
Step Three:
Tuesday, 9/8: An advisory secretary jots responsibilities/donations beside each advisory student’s name. Each student must have designated responsibilities/donations during the event. Advisory teachers approve, and if needed teachers revise the overview of responsibilities.
***Teachers, I need an email of any advisory students volunteering items. I must submit any needed announcements to Stacey by Thursday, 9/10.Step Four:
9/11&14Briefly remind students of assigned duties and donations.
DAY OF THE EVENT:
*Prior to the first period 7:55 AM bell, students drop off food donations as needed in Community Room kitchen.
2:30-4:00 PMAdvisory students collect all equipment and needed supplies. Students are supervised by their advisory teacher as they set-up their game, booth, or activity. All activities will take place between Calvert and Crabtree except ball games or booths, which will be set up between McClendon and Casady Lake.
4:00-5:00 PMYMCA counselors and staff walk elementary Aftercare students to the field. Students are divided into groups of ten by Y personnel, and each group is assigned a starting booth or activity. After the initial activity students may progress to various for activities of their choice.
5:00-5:15 PM
Counselors and staff walk YMCA Aftercare students back to the Y facility. Advisory teachers and students clean up their areas.
5:15 PM
Casady students are dismissed in the carpool area. I submitted an alternate dismissal time email announcement.
Ideas for Advisory Activities:Food Booth: This booth provides snacks/drinks for approximately 300 people. This booth may need to be two advisories working together.
Game Booths: Ideas such as soccer, softball, Capture the Flag, parachute games, etc.
Fishing Booth: Children fish for prizes with magnets attached to fishing pole, and fish for magnetic prizes.
Party Souvenir Booth: Children choose a random gift sack with souvenir prize to take home.
Cake Walk Booth: Children play musical chairs to win a cake pop.
Face Painting Booth: Student artists paint happy designs on children’s faces.
Egg Toss Booth: Children toss hard-boiled eggs to a partner. Prizes recommended for the winning pair.
Gunnysack Races: Children race around a cone or tree while hopping in a sack. Prizes suggested for the winning team.
Bowling Booth: Plastic bowling bowl is used to bowl. The child that gets the most pens down wins each round. Prizes are suggested.
Wheelbarrow Race Booth: Pair children up to race. One child is the wheelbarrow and the other holds his/her feet.
