YAC connects Faculty In Service to Reflection & Music

Casady School traditionally hosts its 140 faculty and staff for a weeklong orientation prior to the students returning to campus. Orientation week opens with a Chapel service on Monday followed by a full faculty and staff gathering, lunch throughout the week, division meetings and an in-service day. This year Casady’s faculty and staff visited the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma and packed 19,522 pounds of food, which is the equivalent of 16,269 meals.
"Casady's mission is to develop excellence, confidence, and integrity in students and prepare them with the skills and knowledge that serve as the foundation for success," said Nathan Sheldon, Casady's Head of School. "We, as the faculty and staff, want to set an example for our students and show them that we too live our mission to the fullest."
Casady’s team wore t-shirts that stated “Casady School Cares” and worked side by side at three stations to finish 194 cases of carrots, 407 cases of fresh bread, and 462 cases for the Food Bank’s Food for Kids, which will fill 2,772 backpacks with food for school children.
"We believe strongly in our community and city, and when you realize one in six people are hungry in our community this felt like the right place for us to spend our time volunteering for such a wonderful organization as the Food Bank," Mr. Sheldon said. “This year we also participated in a Hunger Simulation. It was very eye opening for all of our faculty to see how difficult it is to live with the frustration of hunger.”
Students return to campus for the 2015-16 school year on Monday with two days of orientation and registration. Lower, Middle, and Upper Divisions begin classes on Aug. 26, while the younger students in Primary Division begin school on Aug. 27.

A FEW SHARED AHA MOMENTS @ THE FOOD BANK:

I love the backpack program   How great it is to work together/ How sad it is that there are so many "food insecure" Oklahoma families. Learning about people who struggle daily with not enough food.  The story of the 17 year old who was very aware of his needs.  The need to challenge our parents who own businesses to do the same.  As "Alisha," a grandmother in the hunger simulation, I felt inadequate to meet my families needs.  Realizing how difficult it is to feed a family each week.  Learning about people who struggle daily about food. Carrots are awesome, expecially in 2 # bags.  Experiencing the frustration of being food insecure in the hunger simulation
Aha! I realized today how I take for granted every trip to the grocery store, and for the whole fresh food we get to eat every day.  The Food Bank is a WORKING CAUSE
