October is the perfect month to connect to this project since Students Against Hunger is YAC's next focus with freshmen facilitating the activities. UPDATE: Setting up an investigation site visit for October 28th: I thought it might be a great connection for our students involved in Service Learning to get with you at City Care, and learn more about what you're doing to serve the needs of the homeless and financially needy in OKC. I shared a few thoughts with the YAC student Club which Carmen sponsors, on Tuesday this week, and they were very interested and receptive.
2. Clubs Fair: September 18: Officers will look at Grace's Presentation and send final copy to Fiona for chapel presentation. Officers will have sign-ups and posters. They will also assign who will manpower table. Mrs. Clay will provide animal crackers to give away, pens and quilts for the table.

Good Morning Ambassadors!
The next step in maintaining yourself as a renewable source of compassionate energy is to recognize and act on spontaneous opportunities to promote care, concern, warmth, and love that are presented to each of us daily. I daresay that such opportunities are being presented to us constantly.
As a way to contemplate this concept, take a minute right now to consider this quote from Roman philosopher Seneca,"Wherever there is a human being, there is an opportunity for a kindness."
Your mission today, should you choose to accept it, is to identify and act on as many of these opportunities as you can. As the day moves forward, allow one of these opportunities to fill your heart with wonder. To do this, pay attention to your role in its unfolding and then fulfill it. If it makes sense to do so, act on this opportunity in a way that honors both it and you. Feel free to use your imagination.
Tonight, reflect on at least three of the opportunities you identified, whether or not you acted on them. This may entail taking note of them after the fact as it's possible you will not have recognized some without the benefit of hindsight. The intention in taking time to reflect on them is to help you become more aware of them as they are happening so you can act on them in the future.
As you know, should your actions or those of any of the International Kindness Team be exposed, it will increase the positive ripple effect of creating more compassion in the world. Thus, we at IKT HQ request that you report your activities on theCompassion Report Map!
Good luck, ambassadors.
(For those of you helping children understand these missions, this one may present a little more of a challenge. While yesterday's mission was to bring enhanced awareness to being consistently kind and friendly, today's is to learn how to better recognize an immediate opportunity to perform an act of kindness that for the recipient may seem unexpected. An example I often use with both children and adults is returning grocery carts to their proper places. When I perform this act, I imagine this simple action prevents a car from getting dinged, which prevents the owner of the car from getting upset, which prevents him from taking his anger out on his dog, etc, etc, etc. An adult I know always picks up all the strewn paper towels in public restrooms she uses, and wipes clean the area around the sink so those who follow her have a cleaner restroom to use.) |
