Max Rubenstein (16, Atlanta, Georgia) has always been passionate about two things: community service and computer games. He combined his interests to create the non-profit Game Givers to help distract kids in hospitals who are receiving treatment for cancer. Max's grandmother passed away after a long struggle with ovarian cancer. Max witnessed how difficult it was for her to cope with the disease. He also observed that many kids in the hospital that had little distractions from their illnesses. Max felt drawn towards these kids and decided to bring all the love and care his grandmother had given him to these kids. Max feels that most hospitals are unable to to provide conditions for enough play, and he wants change that. Through Game Givers, he donates new and used video games and consoles to children's hospitals within the United States. Max has come up with three strategies to achieve this goal: video game donation drives, tournaments, and industry partnerships. Over the past 10 months, Max has raised over $54,000 in video games and financial contributions for Game Givers. He also won the San Diego Comic Con International 'Pop Culture Shark Tank' pitch competition, where he presented Game Givers to many potential donors.
The catastrophic flood devastating Louisiana is now the worst natural disaster to strike the United States since Hurricane Sandy four years ago, according to the Red Cross. In moments of darkness, we are uplifted by stories of service of those helping those who have lost all. Sodexo Stop Hunger Foundation grantee Zach Morgan weighed in on how he is helping out in his Louisiana community following the flooding disaster.

This fall, Mikva invites students from across the nation (grades 6-12) to participate in this interactive digital competition that asks youth to work in teams to earn points and win prizes by using their favorite social media platforms to complete any of 51+ electoral Challenges.
What is the most pressing issue facing young people today, why is it important, and what should be done to address it? This fall the American Soapbox Initiative will give 50,000 youth from across the country the opportunity to get up on their soapbox and tell the next president their answer to those questions. 15 youth speakers will win a trip to the Inauguration in January.
The free curriculum that over 700 teachers downloaded in 2012 is back - now updated to include lessons that help students dig into how elections work, explore their own values and ideologies, evaluate the candidates AND get involved in electoral politics through a variety of scaffolded actions. "Tomorrow" - Mavis Staples
Laugh with somebody
Live for somebody
Give to somebody else
...
Gotta work for what you want
Nothing comes automatic
You get out what you put in
No such thing as magic."
