Youth Guide to the Global Goals: Activate Youth to Achieve the Sustainable Development Goals
The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development were adopted by world leaders one year ago at an historic UN Summit. Over the next fifteen years, with these new Goals that universally apply to all, countries will mobilize efforts to end all forms of poverty, fight inequalities, and tackle climate change, while ensuring that no one is left behind.
An unprecedented number of world leaders recently emphasized the role of youth in shaping a better future in their national statements during the UN General Assembly. 59 countries highlighted the importance of youth development and participation, recognizing young people's contributions to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and to international peace and security.
At YSA, we agree that young people will lead the way in achieving the Global Goals. That's why we're proud to introduce the Youth Guide to the Global Goals, a resource that activates youth to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. The tip sheets in this resource will help you:

Lady Gaga's Born This Way Foundation recently launched Channel Kindness and they are searching for 50 youth reporters from across the country who have a passion for cultivating kindness to find, recognize and share the everyday and heroic acts of kindness that fill our daily lives and shape our communities. Applications and nominations are being accepted through October 21.
Every young person has dreams of who they will become. Yet, millions of young people around the world face the unstable circumstances of poverty causing many to leave their education behind to find ways to provide for their basic needs- pushing their dreams further out of reach. For every hand you make and send in as part of the Youth Uplift Challenge, the Bezos Family Foundation will donate $1.90-up to $500,000-to Save the Children's programs empowering youth in Nicaragua and Indonesia to rise into a life they dream for themselves.

The GlobalGiving Accelerator is a virtual training program and crowdfunding campaign that will help you take your fundraising to the next level. Following an optional two-week training curriculum, you'll be entered into an Accelerator campaign where you'll raise at least $5,000 total from a minimum of 40 different donors in order to graduate and secure a permanent fundraising spot on the GlobalGiving platform.
Deadline: October 12
These fellowships will support outstanding individuals aged 18 to 25 to take on projects of their own design that address some aspect of the U.S. criminal justice system. Projects can range from public education and training, to grassroots organizing and policy advocacy, to social media campaigns and other forms of creative communications. Youth Activist Fellowships can be either 12 or 18 months in duration, full-time or part-time, and can begin anytime between May and November 2017. Youth Activist Fellowships come with an award of $60,000 for full-time, 18-month projects as well as access to a range of training and professional development opportunities.

The Nature Conservancy is awarding $2,000 grants to 55 schools across the United States to support projects that implement green infrastructure to address local environmental challenges. These include access to healthy food, air quality, heat island effect, climate change, or storm water collection. Young people will work as social innovators to help their communities through project design and implementation.
Deadline: December 5
Up to five national scholarship recipients will be selected based on their ongoing work to fight hunger, with each receiving a $5,000 scholarship and a matching $5,000 grant for their anti-hunger charity of choice. Sodexo Stop Hunger Foundation will also recognize up to 20 Stop Hunger Regional Honorees with a $1,000 donation for their preferred hunger-relief charity.

 Rinë Fetahu (19, Kosovo) has always dreamed about a peaceful and sustainable environment in her home country. After spending a year in the United States as a YES Exchange Program student, Rinë decided to put the English skills she acquired to good use by helping those with less education opportunities in Kosovo.
She created a language program that provides interactive English lessons for students with special needs called "I too can speak English" that provides equal learning opportunities for young people in Kosovo. The language program targets students with visual, hearing, and motor impairment from the cities of Prizren, Peja, and Prishtina. Rinë cooperated with her fellow YES program alumni and developed a teaching plan adapted for kids with special needs. The lessons use interactive games, visual images, and videos to facilitate the learning process.
Meet the winners of the Gloria Barron Prize for Young Heroes - outstanding young leaders who have made a significant positive difference to people and the environment. Each year, the Barron Prize honors 25 inspiring, public-spirited young people - 15 winners and 10 honorees - chosen from hundreds of applicants from across North America. Half have focused on helping their communities and fellow beings; half have focused on protecting the health and sustainability of the environment.

 The Be an Everyday Young Hero series provides project replication guides to enable you to tackle pressing local, national, and global community issues. This guide in the series, 'Create Healthier Lives for Food Pantry Patrons,' will enhance your knowledge of critical health issues in your community and help you create nutrition education materials for local food pantry patrons.
This guide is the result of a collaborative effort by Youth Service America, Newman's Own Foundation, and Morgan Stasik, a student at the University of Southern Indiana deeply committed to equal access to abundant and quality food. Download the tipsheet here.
In addition to the previously published nonpartisan guides for the Presidential race and how the elections will affect the Supreme Court, the Campus Election Engagement Project just released new guides for the Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania Senate races. And because so many young voters are considering voting Libertarian or Green, they also have a concise nonpartisan resource on the trade-offs of voting Third Party this election, offering historical perspective.
Young people learn about democracy by watching the debates, researching the issues and observing the adults around them. This year, they're absorbing a lot of negative messages. Teaching Tolerance believes that everyone needs to talk about the election, explore the issues and weigh the candidates and their proposed policies. They believe that, despite the inflammatory tone of this year's election cycle, we can have these conversations civilly and respectfully. Get resources to speak up for civility in your classroom or home.
