The Casady Fair Trade Chocolate 3rd grade service-learning project teaches students about social justice and environmental stewardship as they learn about fair trade and marketing through interdisciplinary initiatives. Students sell fair trade chocolate and donate proceeds by percentages to charities whose mission, vision, and practices they research before allocating funding.. Why YAC Bookmark & Bodine Elementary Mini Library Challenge

Join the Casady YAC, Students Rebuild, Save the Children and Global Nomads Group to improve youth reading and writing skills around the world! Make a bookmark.

YAC will mail bookmarks after school Tuesday, April 21. For each bookmark sent, the Bezos Family Foundation will donate $1—up to $300,000—to Save the Children’s Literacy Boost program in Latin America (Peru), Africa (Mali) and Asia (Nepal).

Save the Children will distribute bookmarks to Literacy Boost students around the world. Funding generated by the Challenge will stock Save the Children’s international book banks in Peru, Mali and Nepal, improve school attendance, reading comprehension and self-confidence.

Why is reading and writing so important? Illiteracy can lead to poverty, low self-esteem and isolation, poor health, unemployment / weak economies, inequality and more. Worldwide, 250 million children of primary school age cannot read or write—whether they attend school or not. More than 30 million girls are out of school today and children from the poorest 20% of the population are four times more likely to be out of school than their wealthier peers.

BODINE ELEMENTARY MINI FREE LIBRARY was inspired in the Little Free Library online initiative. It is a take a book, return a book-gathering place. In its most basic form is a box full of books where anyone may stop by and pick a book or two and bring other books to share. During National Volunteer Week, bring a book new or gently used to the BODINE ELEMENTARY BIG mini free library BOX @ the Casady Wing. Ask Ananya B.’17, Why Bodine Elementary?

Casady's participated in St. Baldrick's Day. Fr. Blizzard and Mr. Jeff Bush along with some fourth grade boys (and two dads) had heads shaved to support children's cancer research. It's not too late to donate.

FAIR TRADE CHOCOLATE PROJECT - Chocolate was sold and the % allocation of proceeds to non-profits will take place in April

Casady Stuco's WALK-A-THON answered the Oklahoma Standard Challenge with one school wide act of Service and Kindness. The Walk-A-Thon promoted healthy choices and collected over $ 3,000 for Children's Hospital.

YOUTH LEAD OKC Celebrated Service in 2014-2015 making an art piece as their creative reflection of their activities in its first full year of operations. The meeting took place @ Mercy School Institute. Youth LEAD OKC also made memory jars as Senior Send Off. YLOKC activity included teens of diverse faiths making memories of " IT IS BETTER TOGETHER."

Monday, April 13

Do A kind act during advisory. Participate in the Derby Days, Parents fundraiser for Casady
Lower and Upper Divisions raced their horses by grade, and the Middle Division by houses. Races took place during Chapel times. Winners were the Class of 2017 (sophomores in Upper Division), Woolsey House in Middle Division, and the first grade from Lower Division. Thursday is an all-school lunch and rally where the winning horses from each division will race against each other for the top spot of the School and an entry into Saturday's Derby! Tuesday, April 14 It is Better Together Day. Explore Interfaith Connections

Wear a volunteer t-shirt. Celebrate with YAC @ Wing during B-BLOCK.
Make a bookmark for children in Mali, Nepal and Peru. The Bezos Foundation donates $1 per bookmark up to $300,000 to create libraries to boost literacy. YAC members made 157 bookmarks during the 20 minutes meeting. Ananya, facilitator of this project spoke at Chapel on Friday, April 16 extending the deadline to make bookmarks until the end of the month of April.

Advocating Quality Education for All.

TAKE THE Students Rebuild Literacy BOOKMARK CHALLENGE

Volunteer at Boys and Girls Club 4:00-6:00 PM.

Natalie, Mallory and Gabrielle with Miss Kruse and Mrs Clay took the bookmark challenge and spent 2 hours making bookmarks with children at Boys and Girls Club participating in the Students Rebuild Literacy Project. At the end of the evening 278 bookmarks had been made between YAC meeting time and the two hours with elementary age children from Boys and Girls Club.

The Bezos Family Foundation will provide $1 per bookmark made to purchase books for children in Peru, Mali, and Nepal through http://studentsrebuild.org/find-challenge/literacy-challenge/about-challenge/get-started

$5 tickets and snacks available for purchase. Proceeds will educate a girl for a year at Episcopal Bishop McAllister College in Uganda. Goal: $450. No reservations. Tickets sold at the door.

THE HOUSE located at 806 WEST HILL STREET was assigned to Casady Service-Learning for Global Youth Service. 20 volunteers from OU Medical Center worked @ the house on 4/18/2015. Parents and grandparents took National Volunteer Week t-shirts for their children.

GYSD Advocating Healthier Futures

Girl Rising Screening at Middle Division Community Room, McClendon Building, 3:30 PM-5:30 pm Facilitator: MD Rachel C.'19. Supervisors: Mrs. Zedlitz and Mrs. Clay.

The Global Youth Service Day screening of Girl Rising was attended by 35 participants and collected $303 to send a girl to school at Bishop McAllister College in Uganda.

Rachel C. welcomed participants and made cupcakes, popcorn and punch for sale. After the movie ended, Rachel invited participants to reflect about the movie on big post-it notes or leave a bookmark for children in Mali, Nepal and Peru.
